In this part, we read the answers given to the questions by a candidate. Then, we’ll discuss the answers and estimate the score, and in the last part, we’ll work on improving the answers.

Morning routines

  1. Do you like to get up early?
no, not actually. I’m not a morning person and I prefer to sleep as much as I can. but if I force to wake up early I will do it.

Feedback:

  • Task Response: The answer partially addresses the question by stating a preference for not getting up early and explaining the reason.
  • Grammar Range and Accuracy: The answer contains a few errors, such as “but if I force to wake up early I will do it.” The correct form should be “but if I am forced to wake up early, I will do it.”
  • Lexical Resources: The expression “but if I force to wake up early” is awkwardly phrased. Also, “I’m not a morning person” is informal.
  • Cohesion and Coherence: The answer lacks coherence as it jumps from expressing dislike for getting up early to a conditional statement about waking up early.

Revised Answer:

No, not really. I’m not naturally inclined to wake up early, as I’m not a morning person. However, if I am required to wake up early, I will do so.

  1. Is breakfast important?
Yes ,  I think breakfast is one of the things that provides energy all day and one of the killers of morning breath

Feedback:

  • Task Response: The answer addresses the question by affirming the importance of breakfast.
  • Grammar Range and Accuracy: The grammar is generally correct, but the punctuation is inconsistent, and there is a spelling mistake (“all day and one of the killers of morning breath”).
  • Lexical Resources: The phrase “one of the killers of morning breath” is informal and lacks clarity.
  • Cohesion and Coherence: The answer lacks cohesion due to the informal phrase “one of the killers of morning breath:)”.

Revised Answer:

Yes, I believe breakfast is essential as it provides energy throughout the day and helps combat morning breath. It has also been advised by so many doctors and dietitians.

  1. When did you get up in the morning when you were a kid?
As I remember I was an early bird when I was a kid and I woke up at 7:30 or 8 a.m.

Feedback:

  • Task Response: The answer partially addresses the question by providing information about the respondent’s waking time as a child.
  • Grammar Range and Accuracy: The grammar is generally correct, but the sentence lacks complexity and could be improved by incorporating more varied structures.
  • Lexical Resources: The expression “As I remember” is less formal than “As far as I can recall.”
  • Cohesion and Coherence: The answer lacks coherence as it only provides basic information about the respondent’s childhood waking time.

Revised Answer:

As far as I can recall, I used to wake up early when I was a child, usually around 7:30 or 8 a.m. But in the summer, I would get up later because I didn’t have to attend school.

  1. What is your morning routine?
Well, I don’t have a specific routine , but most of the time after I wake up I eat my breakfast , do some exercise and take a shower. After that I do that day’s plans. for example, listening to an English podcast or another activity.

Feedback:

  • Task Response: The answer adequately addresses the question by describing the respondent’s morning routine.
  • Grammar Range and Accuracy: The grammar is generally correct, but there are minor errors in punctuation and word choice (“do that day’s plans”).
  • Lexical Resources: The phrase “do that day’s plans” is unclear and could be improved for clarity.
  • Cohesion and Coherence: The answer lacks coherence as it jumps between describing the respondent’s morning routine and their plans for the day.

Revised Answer:

Well, I don’t have a fixed routine, but typically, after waking up, I have breakfast, exercise, and take a shower. Following that, I usually engage in activities such as listening to an English podcast or planning my day.

  1. Do you like the morning or the evening?
I’m an evening person and I have more energy in the evenings.

Feedback:

  • Task Response: The answer adequately addresses the question by expressing a preference for evenings.
  • Grammar Range and Accuracy: The grammar is correct, but the response lacks complexity and could benefit from varied sentence structures.
  • Lexical Resources: The phrase “I’m an evening person” is clear but could be more formal.
  • Cohesion and Coherence: The answer lacks cohesion as it only provides basic information about the respondent’s preference for evenings.

Revised Answer:

I prefer evenings as I tend to have more energy during that time of day. Unless I can’t, I choose to do the more important tasks in the evening that I’m more energetic and efficient.

  1. What do you usually do in the evening?
I’m always at work in the evenings but on my free days I spend my time with my friends and my family.

Feedback:

  • Task Response: The answer partially addresses the question by stating the respondent’s activities in the evening.
  • Grammar Range and Accuracy: The grammar is generally correct, but the phrase “I’m always at work in the evenings” could be improved for clarity and coherence.
  • Lexical Resources: The phrase “I’m always at work in the evenings” is clear but lacks variety in expression.
  • Cohesion and Coherence: The answer lacks coherence as it abruptly transitions from work to leisure activities.

Revised Answer:

On a typical day, I work in the evening, but on my days off, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. It’s one thing that can refresh me and help me regain my energy.
